Our environment is intellectually and artistically alive! At ELC, the environment of the child is such that that child gains independence, security and self-confidence.
Children, especially when they are young, are very capable of independently absorbing information, concepts, and skills from their surroundings and peers. As a school that understands this, we place great emphasis on creating an environment that enables discovery and learning.
Kindergarten literally means a Children’s garden. We are the only place in Mangalore that actually live up to being a kindergarten- we have a large children’s garden with flowers, trees, fountains and spaces where children can explore, play and learn unhindered. The environment is an important teacher at ELC and we have designed our space with natural materials, keeping in tune with our desire to live an earth-friendly existence. Our curriculum encourages positive environmental practices such as composting, recycling, and gardening. We have a fountains, sprinklers, water pumps, inflatable pools and water walls.
We maintain an organic garden that provides us with daily opportunities to interact with plants, insects, bugs and earthworms and encourages us to respect and care for all living things. We have a lot of outdoor activities including a beautiful sand play area, a pottery station where children make pots and mud craft, a large outdoor art easel. Free play hall and artist’s studio: We have a 5000 sq-foot indoor play area with a wide range of materials and media such as role play costumes, creative environments that encourage free play, art easels for drawing, painting, clay and pottery stations, shadow play, large and small construction activities and other artistic endeavors. Children are given many avenues for thinking and symbolically expressing themselves- we have Lego block stations, Magnetic tiles for building, train tables, Montessori supplies and puzzles.
